San Diego Literary Scene Launches The Local Author Spotlight

San Diego Literary Scene is happy to announce the launch of our Local Author Spotlight.  The Local Author Spotlight will feature interviews with San Diego writers, affording them the opportunity to share information about themselves, and their work, with the community.  Our first interview will be with John Van Roekel, who was selected by the Friends of the San Diego Central Library as their Writer to Watch for February.

Writers To Watch (W2W) is a new program, designed to promote self-published authors in the San Diego area.  Members of the Writers to Watch committee select accomplished local authors to be featured in the central library on the first Sunday of each month. The author chosen, among other things, will be able to hold a Q&A with attendees, & introduce their work at a small reception in the library, as well as sell and sign his/her books.

A new author is selected each month, so there are only twelve slots per year. Self-published authors are selected from those on display at the annual Local Author Exhibit.  The Local Author Exhibit, now in it's 51st year, is an annual program open to present San Diego County residents who published a book in the current year. Qualified participants must reside within zip codes 91901 - 92199.

A centerpiece of the Local Author Program is the annual Local Author Showcase. The goal of the Showcase is to bring exposure to local talent, and nurture the pursuit of the writing arts in San Diego. The Showcase runs throughout the entire month of February, and is located in the lobby of the San Diego Central Library. Submitted publications are also exhibited in an Online Gallery that lasts throughout the year, and features author information, book cover images, and title and publishing information.

Our interview with John Van Roekel is a two-parter, with Part 1 to be published tomorrow, January 29th.  We look forward to meeting with more of our wonderful San Diego writers in the future, so stay tuned!
