Fractured Fairy Tales: A Modern Twist On Classic Stories From Write Out Loud

Did you have someone in your life who read you stories when you were a child?  Would you like to have that experience again, but made for an adult's sensibilities?  Then Write Out Loud may have just what you're looking for with their upcoming presentation called, "Fractured Fairy Tales".  Write Out Loud has taken the classic fairy tales we all know and, by creating clever twists, has made them new again.

Loosely modeled after the "Rocky & Bullwinkle" cartoon's feature called "Fractured Fairy Tales", Write Out Loud has also taken the original stories, and changed some of the elements in them, thereby creating a new experience for listeners.

"Fractured Fairy Tales" is a live reading of these new stories, which are performed by accomplished actors who bring the narration, characters, and nuances of the stories to life.  "Fractured Fairy Tales" will be performed at the Cygnet Theater, on Tuesday, May 30th.

The "Fractured Fairy Tales" that will be presented in tomorrow night's show are:

The Faery Handbag, by Kelly Link – read by Rachel Esther Tate
In this modern whimsical fairy tale, a young girl’s Grandmother shares the incredible truth that an entire community from Eastern Europe is living inside a handbag. The girl’s mother asserts that her Grandmother is a terrible liar. Truth and fantasy fracture in this fantastical contemporary piece.

The Ugly Sister, by Joanne Harris – read by Linda Libby
A famous Grimm character tells it like it REALLY was…for some of the more misunderstood fairy tale characters. The ones with no happy ever after…

The Gashlycrumb Tinies, by Edward Gorey – Read by Walter Ritter
Truly in keeping with the themes of Shockheaded Peter,  Gorey darkly explores the poetic demise of children…
from A is for Amy who fell down the stairs
to Z is for Zilla who drank too much gin…

A Tale of Diminutive Swine, by John Branyan- performed by David Fenner
The three little pigs run headlong into Shakespeare – and out comes A Tale of Diminutive Swine….
