There is another community read program going on in San Diego County, this one in Oceanside. The Oceanside Public Library program is called the "Big Read". This year's Big Read selection is Emily St. John Mandel's novel, Station Eleven. In addition to book discussions, the Oceanside library will host an array of special programs inspired by the novel throughout the city, from March 17th-April 14th, 2018.
The kick-off event will take place on March 17th, at the Oceanside Museum of Art, at 6pm. OMA will be presenting three exhibitions inspired by themes from the novel: Artifacts, Survival is Insufficient, and The Museum of Civilization. A limited number of free copies of the novel will be available at the reception, and books will be sold at the museum shop as well.
Station Eleven author, Emily St. John Mandel, will be appearing on April 5th, at an event at the Star Theater in Oceanside. KPBS reporter, Alison St. John, will facilitate a Q & A with the author. Mandel will discuss her writing process and the research that went into the book. The event will be followed by a book signing.
The finale event will be held on April 14th, at the Civic Center Library and Plaza. This event will feature original artwork, live music and performances, exhibitions, workshops, and more.
