The Mob Museum in Las Vegas, opened 5 years ago, on the anniversary of the infamous St. Valentine's Day Massacre. During the week of February 10-14th, commemorating both the opening of the museum and the Massacre, the Mob Museum hosted a variety of events. They also added new items to their permanent exhibit collection: original crime scene evidence from the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, including bullets removed from the bodies of the victims, bullet fragments, cartridge cases, and the original coroner’s documents prepared by Dr. Calvin Goddard, who used pioneering ballistics testing techniques to identify the weapons used in the crime.
SDLS was at the Mob Museum on February 11th for a talk by author, Chriss Lyon. Lyon is mainly known for her work as a provider of expert testimony on TV shows such as History Detectives, The Dead Files, Valentine's Day Massacre, and more. Lyon was at the Mob Museum to discuss her first book, A Killing in Al Capone’s Playground: The True Story of the Hunt for the Most Dangerous Man Alive, which details the story of gangster, Fred “Killer” Burke, as well as his connection with Capone, and the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. The book won the 2015 National Indie Excellence Award in True Crime.
The book uses never-before published police reports, as well as interviews with family members of key witnesses, to tell a comprehensive story about organized crime, Burke, and the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, revealing lots of new information. Chriss Lyon presented the material in the book brilliantly. Below is a link to the live stream video of the talk, for any who are interested in hearing it.
