The San Diego Union-Tribune announced today that a new book festival is coming to San Diego this year, on August 26th. The Union-Tribune has partnered with KPBS to launch the festival, which is to be held at the McMillin Companies Event Center in Liberty Station.
Integral to the inaugural San Diego book festival will be the announcement of this year’s One Book, One San Diego selection. One Book, One San Diego is a partnership between KPBS and over 80 public libraries, service organizations, and educational institutions. The purpose is to bring San Diego residents closer together through the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book. One Book, One San Diego holds related events around the city, and encourages participation in discussions of the ideas raised in the featured books, as well as examination of how these ideas connect with our lives and communities.
Nominations for this year's One Book, One San Diego selection are currently being solicited. You can nominate your favorite book either in person at local libraries or online at kpbs.org/one-book. The deadline is Friday. The winner is selected by an advisory panel of avid readers, after months of deliberation. As noted above, One Book, One San Diego will announce the 2017 winner at the Aug. 26 book festival.
