June 25th is the last day to register for Clarion UCSD's eighth annual Write-a-Thon. What is a write-a-thon? Like a charity walk-a-thon, the Write-A-Thon raises money based on how much you write. Your sponsors make donations to Clarion based on the number of words written, or other goals, or just to show support for the writer and Clarion. Here's what you do:
1. Create your writer profile
2. Get pledges
3. Write! Write! Write!
4. Raise money, do good
The Write-a-Thon starts on the same day as the Clarion Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers' Workshop at UC San Diego. The workshop is from June 25th to August 5th, 2017. During this time, Write-a-Thon writers and sponsors can tap into the creative energy of the workshop, encourage this year's Clarion students, and help secure the financial future of Clarion, all without leaving home. The Clarion Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers' Workshop was established in 1968, and is the oldest workshop of its kind. It is widely recognized as a premier training ground for aspiring writers of fantasy and science fiction. Clarion is an intensive, six-week summer program, focused on the fundamentals particular to writing science fiction and fantasy short stories. Instructors are among the most respected writers and editors working in the field today. A different professional writer or editor conducts the workshop during each of the first four weeks. The last two weeks are run by a two-writer anchor team.
The 2017 writers in residence are: Dan Chaon, Lynda Barry, Nalo Hopkinson, Andrea Hairston, Cory Doctorow, C.C. Finlay, & Rae Carson.
